Review - Learning Object (DNA from the Beginning)

Learning and teaching become more efficient, dynamic and interactive through a learning object (LO). The LO (DNA from the Beginning) that I selected is designed with good and clear organization to present a logical sequence of concepts. Users can both follow the tutorial information and search the contents through the index easily. An animated tutorial of the basic experimental designs is provided for in-depth examination of the concepts. It is interesting and motivates learners to acquire knowledge.
Moreover, learners need to interpret the experimental results presented in the tutorial materials before answering the questions from the interactive “Problem” menu. Comprehensive and useful resources are also provided. Some examples include interviews with researchers in the “Audio/Video” menu and links to additional relevant websites in the “Links” menu.

My previous experiences of either using technology for teaching or for learning ><

This is my "first" lesson in this class, a late lesson. It was due to my work, so I could not present in this great class !! >.<

Actually, I am a teacher in a secondary school, teaching a boring subject, Mathematics. I said it's boring because it seems that just few teaching ways can be applied in the lessons, demonstrating the works on the board, give some class practise for the students to finish it, sometimes, some ETV showing to them etc.. I have tried to make my lessons more interesting by insecting some IT, for example using java to demonstrate the 3D model when teaching area and volume. Sometimes I used "graph", a freeware to show the graph of the functions. That's maybe some sharing of my teaching experience.

For learning, I found some useful materials for my homeworks, projects, assignments etc when I was a student (although I am now =P). That's really basic think.

Previous Experience of using technology for teaching and learning

I have never worked as a teacher before, but i have many friends who are teachers.
Till now, they are using some basic computer-based technology in their teaching. Among these, PPT is used most. They love it. Before the PPT comes to their life, they need to write the outline on the blackboard on every class. For PPT, it's reusable, they didn't need to write and write and write. In addition, students can get a copy at the end of the semester, which can facilitate the students review the course.

For me, I have the experience on using technology in my learning, especially in learning English. In the old days, i need to carry my big and stupid walkman into my bag. but now, with the technology development, I can take my MP3 player in my pocket, It's small, exquisite and more poweful than the walkman or CD player.

In my college, I'm a jounalist, covering the news in the university. I use the camera to take videos to show the news vividly. If without the video, students may fall asleep when they reading the news.

Previous Experience of using technology for teaching and learning

I was worked in a company and it had a language training centre. I wasn’t a teacher but I also had some students because I was in charge of another part of students’ study. In my opinion, IT is very useful in language learning. The teachers often played some videos to show the different scenes which looks like a story, it was more interesting, and most students liked studying the “boring” language, and also had deep impression because of the fiction. Meanwhile, students could learn the correct pronunciation by audios except teachers.

Sometimes, I had to hold a small lecture for the students who want to study abroad, apart from my professional knowledge, the most useful tool was PowerPoint. PowerPoint displayed information clearly and helped me to have a logical lecture.

Also, some overseas universities asked students to have an interview before application. Chinese student couldn’t go abroad immediately, at this moment, long-distance video was a good choice, it made everything conveniently.

Describe your previous experiences of either using technology for teaching or for learning

From Elki:

I was a teaching assistant for Information Technology and Multi-media Learning Centre in a secondary school.
Language lessons were arranged in the Multi-media Learning Centre. Apart from internet, sharing/demonstration functions, video camera and individual recording system were available. Students could learn interactively through our teaching materials and the equipments in the Centre. A new learning environment that was different from the traditional lesson in classroom can be provided, so it motivated the students to learn actively.
